Alexa Can Help You Now… How Intelligent Personal Assistants Can Change Patients’ Lives | Thingee’s Tech-Talk

In our Tech-Talk video series we’ve been touching on voice activated tech devices and the impact they have on our lives.  This week we get a little more “personal” as we explore how voice activated intelligent devices can be used within the life science and medical arenas to help improve the lives of patients.

There are new examples almost everyday of how patients are aided by the use of technology like Amazon’s Alexa.  For example, Alexa’s technology can have tremendous benefit to the visually impaired with the ability to easily access information, listen to an audible book or transcript and more.  What about asthma patients who need up to date air quality information, or potential benefits for diabetic or cancer patients, and what about care for expectant mothers or even support for new parents?  The possibilities are nearly endless and just beginning to take shape! So, take a listen to hear more about the impact of this technology and then let’s work together to develop ways that it can benefit your customers, your business and expand opportunities for both.

Thanks for watching!

0:01- hey everybody Jeff Bromley from

0:02 – Thingee here welcome back to Tech Talk

0:03 – where we talk about all things digital

0:05 -in this section we’re going to talk

0:07 -about Amazon Alexa so we talked in the

0:11 -last video about how the user

0:13 -interaction model is changing now let’s

0:15 -talk a little bit about the technology

0:16 -that’s going to help change that so we

0:20 -have Amazon Alexa we have Siri we have

0:23 -Microsoft Cortana as well as Google home

0:27 -so we have a few different players that

0:29 -are coming through your into this arena

0:31 about user interaction models one of our

0:33 -future videos we’re going to talk a

0:35 -little bit about the format war but

0:37 -today let’s talk about specifically the

0:39 -life sciences arena and the life

0:41 -sciences industry and talk about some

0:44 -specific use cases that you guys can you

0:47 – know possibly use in your business so

0:49 -here I want to just see do with a few

0:52 -ideas something short and sweet so you

0:53 – guys can get an idea in a flavor for how

0:55 -this technology might be used so first

0:58 -let’s talk about people that are

0:59 -visually impaired those people may or

1:01 -may not be able to read a book may have

1:03 -some challenges whether it be glaucoma

1:05 -macular degeneration or a number of

1:08 -other eye diseases that prohibit them

1:11 -from being able to read so now we have

1:14 -Amazon Alexa to be able to read that

1:16 -information read a book back to them you

1:18 -know what opposed wonderful so now we

1:19-can tap into Alexa inaudible and

1:22 -actually be able to have them listen to

1:23 -a book where otherwise it may have been

1:26 – challenging for them asthma what’s the

1:29 – air quality like out today you know do I

1:31 – need to bring my inhaler with me how is

1:33  -the mold count how is the pollen count

1:34  -am I going to be affected today and we

1:37 -can ask

1:38 -we can ask Amazon Alexa or Siri or any

1:41 -one of these platforms what it’s like

1:43 -outside allowing me to react to the day

1:46 -we can also talk about you know cancer

1:49and reminders for people being able to

1:52 – take their medications so actually

1:54 – having these devices pop up in their

1:56 – home and saying it’s time to take your

1:57 – medication diabetes you know and

2:00 -potentially you know glucose levels of a

2:03 -specific food so we can actually go and

2:06 -ask that of Siri or Alexa and then let’s

2:11- talk about a large patient population we

2:13 – have women that are either trying to get

2:15 – pregnant they are pregnant or they’ve

2:17 – had a baby so now we have three specific

2:19  -patient populations that can use this so

2:22 – if I’m trying to get pregnant what is

2:24 – the right time for me to attempt to

2:25 – conceive what is you know if I’m on

2:29 – therapy in order to help me conceive

2:31 – what are potentially some of the side

2:32 – effects what are some of the things that

2:34 – I need to look for while I’m doing this

2:36 – therapy while they’re pregnant

2:37 – what’s braxton-hicks you know you know

2:39 -what am I to expect in each one of my

2:42 – trimester is in each month how is my

2:44 – baby progressing what’s the size of them

2:46 – I have all this information that I can

2:47  – go and I can gather and then we have the

2:49  – parents at 3:00 in the morning that are

2:52  -trying to soothe their baby so now we

2:56 – can ask Amazon Alexa to say Alexa play

2:59 – me some lullaby music or Alexa my child

3:02 – has a fever what should I do

3:04 – so these are some just basic ideas that

3:09 – we can take and use in order for people

3:10 – to change their interaction model and

3:12 – change the way that they’re doing things

3:13 – because this is going to happen the

3:15 – shift is on as we talked about

3:16 – previously 3:17

did we pique your interest is this

3:19 – something you’re thinking about for your

3:20 – business do you have some great ideas

3:22 – that you want to take and bring them

3:24 -through and get them across the finish

3:25 -line let’s brainstorm let’s get together

3:27 -let’s talk about this and figure out

3:29 – ways that we can use this technology to

3:31 – leverage in your business did you like

3:33 – this video if you did you can do three

3:35 – things right now to help continue our

3:38 – technology during the together one first
